Navigating the world of diabetes care can be overwhelming, whether you are at risk for, have been recently diagnosed or are living with diabetes. Where do you turn to for help?
You can find answers to many of your questions at the American Diabetes Association EXPO, a FREE one-day diabetes-focused health event in more than a dozen metropolitan cities that brings health care professionals, experts, product exhibitors and volunteers together under one roof.
Each EXPO has different features, yet all touch on living well with diabetes or prediabetes. There you can take advantage of free health screenings provided by local health care organizations such as blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol; talk with experts in a one-on-one setting; attend cooking demonstrations; and visit product exhibits and presentations on diabetes prevention and management. And don’t forget to bring your children and participate in our Family Fun/Healthy Kids area with information and activities geared toward youth with diabetes and their families!
Diabetes affects nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States, with an additional 79 million having prediabetes. EXPO is one way the Association helps those affected learn how to live well, be active and change the future of diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association’s EXPO began in 1995 in Phoenix, Ariz., and has grown to 13 cities around the country. In 2013, EXPO provided free diabetes information and support to nearly 65,000 people.
The 2014 schedule for the American Diabetes Association EXPOs is as follows (all events are on Saturday!):
• Denver (Feb. 22)

• New York City (March 15)

Diabetes is an epidemic in South Texas. I would really like to see a future date for somewhere closer than San Antonio. Corpus Christi would seem like a perfect place.
Hi Yvette, the EXPO schedule continues to grow. If we don’t have an EXPO coming to your area, there may still be some great events happening on a smaller scale. Your local office would know! http://www.diabetes.org/in-my-community/local-offices/
So the expo began in Phoenix, but is not going to be in Phoenix this year? I am new diagnosed and would have gone had it been here.
Hi Marcy, the EXPO schedule continues to change and grow from year to year. If we don’t have an EXPO coming to your area, there may still be some great events happening on a smaller scale. Your local office would know! http://www.diabetes.org/in-my-community/local-offices/

Diabetes is terrible, but it can only be avoided with food and healthy living
I am happy when I find articles talking about the care we should take with our health. I am going to live in Italy and I would like to know the best places to take care of diabetes being an Italian citizen.
Looking forward to the 2017/2018 Expo.
Great article, it has helped me a lot. Thank you.
