The Go-To Guide
There’s a new and updated edition of the American Diabetes Association Complete Guide to Diabetes out! My parents gave me the 2nd edition when I was diagnosed. I’m sure the 3rd and 4th editions each went through their updates and changes, but when I picked up the new 5th edition recently, I can hardly recognize it. The layout has changed, there’s more information on health care systems, insurance and men’s and women’s health – the book has a completely different look and feel. Continue reading

Award-Winning and Diabetes-Friendly Mediterranean Meals
Back in November, a friend and I made a “Mediterranean Thanksgiving” using The Mediterranean Diabetes Cookbook. Later, I chatted with the author, Amy Riolo, about her book, her culinary experiences all around the world and her connection to diabetes. I thought her cookbook was great, so I used it again for a potluck evening with friends. Right then, I should have realized that I wasn’t the only one appreciating the great stuff in Amy’s cookbook. Leaving on a Jet Plane
I’m flying south this week to meet my family for the holidays and while I’m excited to see them, I am not excited to be flying. Airport security lines always freak me out a little. Did I remember to take of my belt? Do my shoes go on the conveyor belt or in the plastic bin? Will my jewelry set off the metal detectors? Will my insulin pump? Will my continuous glucose monitor sensor be noticed if I get a pat-down? And, of course, am I moving fast enough so the people behind me don’t get annoyed? Continue reading
